However, each institution was facing similar\nchallenges prior to their creation. Corruption was riddling all layers of\ngovernment administration in both countries. For this reason, one may assume\nthat Ukraine is going to encounter challenges similar to those Romania is\nfacing at the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Policy\nbrief is devoted to anti-corruption mechanisms in the field of criminal justice\n\u2013 the activities of the bodies conducting a pre-trial investigation of\ncorruption crimes in Romania (the National Anti-Corruption Directorate \u2013 the\nDNA) and Ukraine (the National\nAnti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine<strong> <\/strong>\u2013the NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor\u2019s Office \u2013 the SAPO).\nOf course, specialized law enforcement agencies do not cover all\nanti-corruption policies of both states, but they are rather representative in\ndepiction of how countries have progressed with their respective\nanti-corruption reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This brief aims at analyzing the experience of the DNA\u2019s work in Romania and the subsequent pressure on it by political elites and at formulating proposals for the protection of anti-corruption institutions in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OOgBJuTlMNw\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Having rather different systems of anti-corruption institutions, Romania and Ukraine introduce reforms at different pace.
