After three years of war, the Ukrainian economy is still holding up

While some are already coveting the riches of Ukraine that would no longer be at war, the country’s economy continues to struggle with the effects of the Russian invasion. However, it is facing a resurgence of inflation and a labor shortage.

Three years after the start of the full Russian invasion, the Ukrainian economy has held up relatively well. This resilience can be explained in particular by international aid, but also by an adaptation that began after the annexation of Crimea and the start of the conflict in Donbass.

“In 2014, the Ukrainian economy suffered an initial shock and had to readjust to shift its focus from Russia to Europe,” recalls Maksym Samoiliuk.
