Can the Ukrainian economy grow in 2023?

Ukraine has managed to stabilize energy supplies in the majority of regions faster than expected, despite Russian attacks on the energy sector. This gives hope for a faster recovery of business activity.

However, the most unpredictable and significant factor for the forecast is the ongoing full-scale war that has been going on for over a year. This delays the return of refugees and creates extreme pressure on the budget.

Understanding what lies ahead, based on data and reasoned assumptions, is necessary for Ukraine to plan its budget revenue and expenditure policies and transparently attract international support.

During the discussion, the deputy director of CES, Maria Repko, presented the consensus forecast of Ukrainian experts and companies for 2023. After that, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and the National Bank presented their vision of the economic situation by the end of the year.

Panelists:

  • Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Serhiy Marchenko;
  • Deputy Director of the Center for Economic Strategy (CES), Maria Repko;
  • Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Oleksiy Sobolev;
  • Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Serhiy Nikolaychuk;

Moderator: Hlib Vyshlinsky, Executive Director of CES.

This event is one of the activities under the Project UA2008-02: Capacity support for evidence-based public finance management which is supported by the British Embassy Kyiv. The project delivery partner are Abt Britain and Centre for Economic Strategy.
