Economic Review in August. Can Ukraine keep the heating and lights on this winter?
The Centre for Economic Strategy (CES) together with the German Economic Team (GET) invites you to join the discussion on “Economic Review in August. Can Ukraine keep the heating and lights on this winter?”
The event will take place on August 23 at 16:00 (CEST) via Zoom.
The CES released its fifth monthly review of the most important developments in the economy since the beginning of the war. The reviews for previous months are available on the organisation’s website.
During the event, experts will traditionally provide an overview of the main sectors of Ukraine’s economy and focus on Ukraine’s energy security and preparation for the heating season.
With the beginning of a full-scale war, the Ukrainian energy system could quickly integrate into Europe and ceased to depend on Russia and Belarus.
At the same time, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe – the Zaporizhzhia atomic power plant – was under occupation, and Russian troops are still trying to disconnect it from the Ukrainian system.
These factors, as well as the destruction of the heating infrastructure and the potential resumption of “gas wars” with Russia, promise Ukraine perhaps the hardest winter in the entire history of independence.
Agenda for the event:
