Is the construction sector ready for Ukraine’s recovery?

19 September 2024

Russia’s full-scale invasion dealt a significant blow to the construction industry. Construction companies, which are in high demand in the affected regions, faced a severe shortage of personnel due to both labor migration and mobilization.

The construction sector is experiencing a deficit of goods and an escalation in the cost of building materials. The production of metal, dry building mixtures, and thermal insulation materials has been disproportionately impacted.

Despite this, according to the EBA study, 90% of the building materials needed for reconstruction can be produced in Ukraine. For this, it is necessary to concentrate on attracting investments in the field.

We talked about this in more detail on the event. In addition, experts from the Recovery spending watchdog project as usual reviewed the progress of reconstruction over the past month.

Invited participants:

  • Volodymyr Vlasiuk, Director of SE “Ukrpromzovnishekspertyza”.
  • Roman Homonets, infrastructure specialist, member of the policy and recovery team at the Business Ombudsman Council;
  • Lev Partskhaladze, President of the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine.

Moderator: Oleksandra Betliy, leading expert of the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting.

The release was prepared within the framework of the EU-funded project “The recovery spending watchdog”. Previous releases are available here.
