Russian assets: will the EU dare to give them to Ukraine?
The Centre for Economic Strategy (CES) invites you to join the October overview of the Ukrainian economy. We are pleased to announce that, starting with this edition, our economic reviews will be supported by the UK International Development from the UK government.
The special topic of the upcoming event: “Russian assets: will the EU dare to give them to Ukraine?”.
Since the start of the invasion, the European Union and G7 countries have “frozen” around €300 billion in Russian assets, most of which are held in the EU. The income generated from these funds is already being directed to Ukraine under the ERA program, but it still falls short of covering the country’s full financial needs during the war.
Further steps towards confiscating the principal amount of these assets continue to spark debate, mainly due to concerns in some countries about a potential outflow of capital from European markets.
During the event, we will discuss why these fears are exaggerated, the significance of Russian assets for Ukraine’s future, and how they can be accessed.
In addition, CES experts will traditionally present an overview of the main changes in the country’s economy over the past month. Previous reports are available on our website, and data visualization – in the Ukraine War Economy Tracker.
The event will take place on October 21 at 16:00 (Kyiv time) in Zoom. Registration is required below.
