Ukraine’s economy entered a deep recession and its currency lost some 70% of its value as a result of the 2014 conflict. Many Ukrainian businesses suddenly halted contact with longtime counterparts in Russia.
Direct flights between the two countries stopped, and divisions over Russia’s role in the war drove a wedge between businesses that had collaborated for years. “One side wasn’t eager to sell and the other side wasn’t eager to buy,” said Hlib Vyshlinsky.
