How can Ukraine effectively use €60 billion in EU defense aid?
The Centre for Economic Strategy (CES) invites you to join the May review of the Ukrainian economy with a special topic: «How can Ukraine effectively use €60 billion in EU defense aid?».
Recently, the European Council approved a two-year €90 billion loan to Ukraine, of which €60 billion will go towards defense, and €30 billion towards supporting the state budget.
The first tranche of the military part of the loan will amount to €6 billion and will be disbursed no later than June. It will be used to purchase Ukrainian-made drones. According to European Pravda, the next tranche may be used to procure ammunition, drones, and air defence systems.
At the same time, the question of the mechanism for using these funds remains open — to what extent Ukraine can determine how they are allocated, and what should be financed as a priority?
We will discuss this in more detail on 21 May at 16:00 on Zoom (Kyiv time). In addition, as usual, we will review the changes in the Ukrainian economy over the past month.
Our regular monthly reports are available on our website, and data visualisations are available in the War Economy Tracker.
